Life Story – Folk Traditions of the Region

Until the middle of the 20th century, life in Berettyóújfalu and the surrounding villages was based on traditions that had evolved over the centuries. One of the important goals in life was to start a family. Parents saw children as a continuation of themselves. Beliefs accompanied our ancestors throughout their entire lives.  There were countless customs and traditions associated with each of life’s milestones. These were greatly influenced by the social structure of the community, financial circumstances and property relations, church, etc. The new ethnographic exhibition of the Museum of Bihar shows these traditions, objects and documents related to life stages in an interactive way.

Come with us, enter the exhibition hall through the gate of life, walk along the symbolic path of life, learn about Bihar traditions from the cradle to the coffin!
